My Happiness

There is a strong chill that wraps around my skin,
as the decorations on my porch sway in its direction.
I lay outside in a crowded yard of leaves,
while children stuff garbage bags full of the bright ones.
Soon those garbage bags will be stacked with a straw hat and a face.
Neighbors sit on their decks drinking warm cider
freshley made by golden crisp apples picked from the finest trees.
When night falls we sit around the camp fire and tell ghost stories.
Horror movies play on the television,
but telling our own stories are more enjoyable.
In a few days at this time these streets will be filled with children.
They will be dressed as ghouls and goblins,
darting back and forth for candy.
Happiness is what fills their eyes when they run home with
pillowcases full of tootsie rolls and kit-kats.
The harvest moon hangs heavy over our heads.
As we twirl our sticks, trying not to burn our marshmallows,
we look up to catch a glimpse of the starry sky.

What will happen next?

I predict that in the next section of the book Winston will either attack Mr. Charrington or possibly even kill him now that he knows he is a part of the Thought Police. The telescreens will catch him doing so and he will be taken away and placed in jail. In jail Winston may have a lot of time to think about what he has done and what will happen to him. Julia may not come to visit him because she may feel ashamed. I think it is possible that Winston will be beaten in jail by other inmates or guards because he hates the Thought Police and disagress with their tactics. I think O'Brien may pay Winston a visit in jail to discuss the Brotherhood. I think Julia may move on to finding someone else because she cannot wait around for Winston to get out of jail.

Determining Fate.

Everyday we turn on the television and hear what happened yesterday, or what could possibly happen tomorrow. We hear what the latest trends are what should definitely be thrown away if owned. Everyday we hear from our peers the correct way to act, the correct way eat sleep and breathe. How would it feel to know that your birth was also chosen for you? To know that not only will you be told from random people around you how to comb your hair, but also have your hair color chosen for you? Genetic engineering can completely throw off fate, and turn you into their creation.
There are two way of looking at Genetic engineering. The first is the positive side, the side where you can decide how your child’s life will unravel. No parent in this world I am sure wants to ever see their child suffer. When born with diseases it cripples the child from ever being normal, and for many people it is hard to view them as a healthy part of society. If Genetic engineering could minimize the amount of possible early deaths as well from eliminating diseases that would also be a positive stand point while choosing the babies chromosomes.
However, this type of engineering costs large amounts. No one would be paying for it aside from you yourself whether you are for it, or against it. Also it is always possible that the parent would like to choose the child’s genetic characteristics for their own benefit. Maybe they want a child that would be extremely popular, so they would pick a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. Using Genetic Engineering in this way would anger many. You are suppose to want to use it to eliminate diseases and the risks of diseases in your child, not make them the most popular athlete in school.
There are many ways to look at this type of research. There are many positives, and many negatives. It has come to be a very sensitive subject, for reasons that not all of America agrees with it, and also not everyone knows enough about it. In my past conversations I have found many people not agreeing with this subject of acting as God. When it comes to what life can bring, it should only be up to God.

I believe.

I believe the hardest things in life can only make you stronger. The type of things that can break your heart in one thought. The type of things that live inside your head for all eternity. They type of things that hide in shallow wounds that you hope you will never have to talk about. The types of things that change your life.
Two years ago, my uncle was driving home from a meeting, when he suddenly fell asleep at the wheel of his car. No one was hurt, minor damage was done, but that day changed the lives of many. He was taken to the hospital, where he had been questioned numerous times by the police if he had been drinking, his answer was no every time, and it as the truth, however no one knew exactly what went wrong.
We went to visit him the next day, after my brother and I got out of school. To be honest he looked great, he was smiling and cracking jokes. It was always typical of my uncle to make anything into a joke; I personally think it was a way to cover his fear. We stayed for few hours with him, for comfort. I jokingly told him he should not give me such a huge scare three days before my seventeenth birthday. He apologized and told me everything would be just fine, but he had no idea really of what was about to happen.
Two days later we went to visit him again, this time a doctor was there running tests on him. He came to give his some results while my aunt was there, and so we all stepped out of the room. A good twenty minutes had gone by before the doctor came out, and allowed us back in. The mood of the room had taken a complete 360. My aunt told us that the CAT scan showed a small tumor on my uncle’s brain, and that it was probably only going to get larger. My heart sank straight into the bottom of my stomach. She told us they were going to have to operate to remove the cancerous tumor however it is not guaranteed they would be able to get it all.
In the mean time, my uncle became almost a new person. He had always been a very adventurous person, he loved scuba diving, and skiing, he was a very large part of his community. He coached little league football, which he took pride in. He re- instated a fundraising football event that many people appreciated. However, his main prides in life were his two children, who he raised alone since they were two and four. My uncle loved those two. He spent every minute he could with them. I know from being there with them, that they absolutely adored him as well.
Over the next several months my uncle became weaker. We found out that the cancer had been casued by cell phone waves, and pesticides on a possible fruit he'd eaten. He was given chemo therapy few times a week, and soon it came time for another operation. This was much worse operation then the first. This one took hours so it seemed, we sat in a small waiting room awaiting the doctor’s arrival. When the surgery was finally over, my uncle’s wife, and two kids, my two uncles, and the five member of my family gathered around his bed. He had a hard time opening his eyes, but we assured him we were all there. It was a very hard time for all of us, because even though no one said we all knew that my uncle as terminal.
Time went by and it seemed my uncle was only falling faster. It was hard for everyone to think about. The last time I had ever seen him, or talked to him was at a family get together at my house. I went over and sat next to him on the couch, he could no longer see out of the corners of his eyes so I positioned myself so he could see me. He asked me about school, and work. The last thing my uncle ever said to me was “you’re a good kid, and you make a lot of other people very happy.” That meant a lot to me.
It was a Sunday morning in November, when my dad returned from my uncles. His face was unusually calm, but also sad. He told us that my uncle had passed, and he went very peacefully. Sadness and despair was the main theme for the next few months. His funeral was beautiful, and most memorable. My aunts, uncles and cousins flew in from all over. We all loved our uncle very much, and appreciated having him in our lives.
Losing a family member is something that no one ever wants to go through, it is a life changing event. However, in the end it made me feel better knowing my uncle was now in a place where he did not have to be in anymore pain. I’ll always know he looks down on all of us, and knows we miss him. It’s never easy to lose someone you love, but the hardest things in life, can only make you stronger.

How to remove a contact lens

The first thing to do when removing a contact is to wash your hands thoroughly. Be sure to use plenty of soap to wash away any germs preventing pink eye. Turn off the faucet and dry your hands on a clean towel. When you're finished with that take out your contacts case and unscrew each lid. Take the contact solution and squirt enough to fill the small cup to put your contacts in over night. Next be sure you have plenty of light, turn of some lamps or the over head if necessary. Open your eye wide and with your left hand reach around and pull up the lid of your eye with either your index or middle finger, which ever is more comfortable. I suggest the middle, because it pulls it up higher which is needed. After the with your right hand reach underneath your eye with also the middle right finger and pull the bottom part of your eye down opening the eye wide. Continue with your right index and thumb to gently reach into the eye and softly pinch from each side of the eye the contact lens and lift it off. After it is out easily place it into one side of your contact container and screw on either the "L" lid for your left eye. Finally repeat for your right eye, and you are ready for bed.

How to get away in school, without an ID

In order to get away with no ID you must be sneaky and quick witted. When walking into school and realizing you have forgotten your ID, do not become a dysfunctional mess, simply improvise. If possible borrow a lanyard and tuck it into your shirt. If you happen to be walking down the hallway at the same time as a teacher do not ignore them. Make eye contact and initiate communication. Say hello, and ask how they are doing. They will be so stunned a student could possible think of someone aside from themselves for a minute they will completely forget whether or not you had your ID on, much less they will care. If possible avoid the main office, it is full of people who would love nothing more but to make you miserable by saving you a seat in internal. If you absolutely have to go in there for something, make sure you use those pearly whites to your advantage. Say hello to everyone, and make sure you are proudly displaying that lanyard tucked into your shirt. Asking plenty of questions always deflects attention from the ID as well, so remember, "no question is a dumb."
